The Government will do ?everything it can? to help those affected by the shootings in Cumbria, the Prime Minister has said.

Speaking at Prime Minister?s Questions this afternoon, David Cameron said people?s thoughts should be with the families and friends of those killed and injured in the incident.

At least five people have died after a man carried out a series of shootings in the Whitehaven, Seascale and Egremont areas. His body was later found by police.

The Prime Minister said:

?The Chief Constable of Cumbria is working closely with other forces and other emergency services to ensure a coordinated response to these rapidly moving events. The Government will do everything it possibly can to help the local community and those affected.?

He added:

?When lives and communities are shattered in this way, our thoughts should be with all those caught up in these tragic events, especially the families and friends of those killed or injured.?
